3 things I’d do RIGHT NOW if social media was feeling like a massive drag.

97% of small business owners believe they are invisible on social media. And yet we’re all here, trying so HARD.

We’re all scrolling away, trying to emulate this or that trend, getting nowhere apart from pissed off.

And that energy leaks into our businesses. It leaks into how we show up, how we talk about our stuff and how we turn up for our clients and communities.

The thing is, visibility matters. It = clients, cash and a viable business when people in your orbit know who you are and what you do.

If you don’t create and connect with people, you can’t respond to them or get invited by them or spark something in them or reflect them back to themselves.

You can’t tell them about what you do.

You can’t sell.

You can’t make money.

You can’t live on your terms, giving to causes you care about, using your money and time to make the world a better place.

And visibility is HARD if you’re a woman or have been socialised as female because from birth, we’ve been told to be nice and pleasing and acceptable. To not take up space. To follow, not lead. And that if we go against this, we’ll be judged and ridiculed and not accepted or safe.

And then we went into corporate jobs and those stories have been layered and layered and layered upon times a trillion.

And then we made the leap to work for ourselves, and we wonder why it feels so fricking awful and icky to show up as ourselves because we all know that people work with people and authenticity helps connection.

Those deep, layered stories have activated such a primitive ancient part of our brains that can be hard to shift without conscious effort and support.

So we have all these layered stories about safety and visibility going on one hand and social media changing its algorithm every 5 seconds on the other. No wonder we’re pissed off!

Here are 3 things I’d do right now if social media was feeling like a mahoosive drag ….

Clarity and conviction of messaging

What do you do and who do you do it for?

When you know exactly who you are talking to, what they need help with and how your thing helps, you cut through the crap and really hone in on your people. Making sure people can be clear on value, how you fit into their world and who you are is half the battle.

Make new markers of success

Obvs money, clients, reach and likes are all dinging those dopamine receptors in your brain….but what else could if they feel like too much of a stretch or too out of your control at the moment? Giving your brain new things that light it up and make it feel good, makes you feel good, and social media feel good too.

Stop worrying about the algorithm and focus on what you can control - YOU!

Yeah, I said it. Sod that thing right off! Instead focus on getting to know you, how you work, what you like about social media, what you don’t like. So much of business, marketing and selling is an energetic exchange. If your energy is off because you hate doing reels, or you can’t stand showing your face,  your potential clients pick up on that because so much of how we communicate is non verbal.
